Hopefully you can see this post, this page. If not the odds are I’ve done something rather wrong, if so please let me know by dropping me an email danhadland [at] gmail [dot] com.

Basically I’ve brought the blog up a level so that it is now the index page of www.doss-about.co.uk. The reason is simple enough, the blog was the only bit of the site worth having. It’s updated often enough and it basically means that Wordpress (the thing that powers this site) can now be a CMS (content management system) for all of it. Why would I want to do that?

Well, I’m hoping to finally get around to writing an about page and from that possibly do a testimony page, that’s the aim. With Wordpress as the back-end I figured this would be a whole lot easier, especially for an about page.

A lot of things are changing very quickly in life at the moment and whilst this blog serves a purpose as documenting them it would be nice to have a central place for the really big ones, getting married, graduating, that kind of thing. My aim is that it will be a kind of rolling about page as I change and also provide a point where people stumbling onto here can get to know me a bit quicker.

Also, I’ve put a redirect from www.doss-about.co.uk/blog to go straight to here (and learnt a bit about .htaccess along the way) but for those linking here it’d be great if you could just drop the /blog from your link, thanks.

So yes, welcome to www.doss-about.co.uk, the home of WeeManDan’s Blog, let me know if anything is broken, thanks,

Dan

I think that was exactly what we needed. Not only did we feel right at ease but we were made to feel at home and welcomed in, this was a whole lot better, just what we needed.

The place was lively and God most definitely amongst His people. I don’t really know what to say to be honest. no doubt Kita will put it in words far better than I can.

In summary though it had that spark it felt like a place that could be home and actually it has helped with settling in to Reading. So far this town has felt like just a place to live. On the way back though it felt like home, like the last bit of the jigsaw was in place.

Dan

P.S. For those that are interested, the Grand Prix was good, very good but the fall out from it, well that’s going to be interesting.

So as I’m sure a fair number will know Google launched there browser yesterday, this is just a quick post from it.

I jumped on the bandwagon fairly early yesterday when my RSS feed was full of stories of this strange new browser but alas I didn’t actually get time to use it yesterday. Work and life got in the way, such is the way of things but now the office is quiet and so a few minutes have presented themselves.

First impressions are it’s fast and I really like the way when it’s maximised you get a lot more of a website than in Internet Explorer (IE) and Firefox (FF), in fact it is very similar to the full screen modes in those browsers. The new tab having thumbnails of most visited sites is quite nice and I could see that coming in handy.

The GUI, hmm, I’m not convinced it reminds me too much of the default Gnome blue theme in many Linux distributions that I’ve never been a big fan of but this is a beta and with a bit of luck they may add theme options like FF. In fact I think that is probably the reason I couldn’t switch right now, add-ons. I use so many in FF, at least 5 regularly and 3/4 when working on more specific things. Then again, a lot of these are for checking Google services such as Gmail and Google Reader (my RSS reader of choice) and so in future releases it wouldn’t surprise me if these were more tightly tied in so maybe I could one day see myself using this browser over FF but I think I would prefer to see FF just incorporate some of the features of Chrome.

I’m a big fan of Mozilla and FF and a big fan of what they have acheived and I don’t really want to see Chrome eat into that but pulling some user away from IE, that, that would be nice…

Dan

**edit**

Apparently this post now belongs to Google…

Just came across this in my RSS feed, snails delivering an email (for part of the way). What a genius, slightly strange idea, makes me wonder how someone can come up with the idea. To quote from their website:

Our snails are equipped with a miniaturised electronic circuit and antenna that enables them to be assigned messages from hardware located within their enclosure. The moment you click ‘send’ your message will travel at the speed of light to our snail server where it will await collection by a snail agent.

Once associated with the tiny electronic chip on the snails shell your message will be carried around until the snail chances by the drop off point. Hardware located at this point collects the message from the snail and forwards it to its final destination.

I’m quite looking forward to when the webcam goes live in August, may even follow the blog!

On the ECE (the department that runs my course) forum (I would link to but its on the intranet so no real point) it seems someone is trying to stir things up a little from a topic on time travel:

If I could travel back, I would shoot the guy that came up with the idea of the bible in the head. Then properly educate everyone……..

[opens can of worms, steps back, waits for sparks......]

I think for a change I’ll just leave it. I was very, very tempted with replying something like:

I’d like to go back and say thank you.

But alas I don’t feel like it, I don’t feel moved to and I think it’s just because of the tone of the post. I find if some people aren’t interested in what you have to say then heck, save some time and invest it elsewhere. This post just seems like they want an argument, not constructive intellect.

God bless,
