Expensive start to the day

17th November

So got in the car this morning and not a lot was happening starter motor wise, yep, the battery was dead. It really shouldn’t be, the car had been still for a couple of days but really, it shouldn’t be dead. Anyway, called the RAC who turned up about an hour later (originally been told two hours, so that was a nice surprise) jump started and all was well with the car, phew! Left it running for 10-15 mins and the RAC man tested the battery and confirmed his suspicions, it was a dud.

18 months old, the battery really shouldn’t be dead but alas it is. Thankfully Halfords have a three year guarantee and thankfully my Mum has been able to find the receipt. Downside is she’s in Oxford and I’m in Reading. Didn’t really want to run the risk of having to call out the RAC this evening when I finish work for two reasons. I’m finishing late anyway and as it’s a known fault they’re reluctant to come out twice for it and there’s no chance of a third strike.

With all this in mind I bit the bullet somewhat and bought a new battery, £60 :O that’s somewhat a dent for the month before Christmas. I’ve spoken to Halfords and all being well, at the weekend when I’m next at my folks, they *should* refund my credit card for the battery today with the receipt for the dud. I hope so, really, quite a lot hope so.

So yeah, kind of an expensive start to the day, thankfully work were all fine about me being late in. Had a review last week and they’re pleased with all I do which is good to hear but that’s another post.

On another note had an email through this morning from moneysupermarket.com, I used them briefly whilst looking for house insurance and their spam can sometimes be interesting! This week it was about reducing car insurance prices, something I’ve been thinking about when it comes to renewal time next summer. Usual stuff on there, nothing particularly spectacular apart from the last paragraph:

Get Married

Married drivers statistically make fewer claims than single motorists perhaps due to the added responsibility of having a family at home, etc. Of course we don’t recommend using the prospect of cheaper car insurance as the reason to pop the question but it is in an added incentive if you’re thinking of doing it anyway.

Pretty cool that :)

  • Missing lemsip, still coughing up bloody phlegm :( #
  • New indicator unit arrived, all fitted and sorted :) #
  • For some reason I have a huge urge to watch Star Wars right now, guess it’s got something to do with music in me ears! #
  • Eww, feeling really rough at the moment, can’t really go home sick though, got a Halo call later which should be good #
  • Get the feeling it could be quite a quiet day in the office, not sure where the feelings coming from but it’s been accurate so far #
  • Bums, forgot to charge the shuffle, bum bum bum #
  • Thankfully there’s the David Gilmour YouTube Channel, phew! http://tinyurl.com/55bbh2 #
  • Half way through the day, how? I’ve no idea, just need the sofa and a duvet, feeling dog rough #
  • Somehow I’ve got through today, don’t know how, looking forward to collapsing on the sofa at home #
  • A pint at lunch time, seriously makes a good highlight of the day #
  • Sometimes I wish I was living in a detached house in the country so I could really turn the volume up, actually scrap the sometimes bit #

Couple of amusing Churchy-type things

16th November

Just a few Church related things over the last few days that have amused me a little.

First off “The Facebook of Genesis” seems rather accurate and heck, could probably be used in some kind of  Student Alpha ice breaker type thing. Quick way to cover the first few chapters and hopefully generate conversation as well. Wonder if someone could do the whole Bible, probably, although my guess is you’d have to have far too much time on your hands. Or, could be a good final year theology project!

The other item was some news from the BBC, a Russian Church being stolen. Ok, it’s quite cruel that I found this amusing  but come on, a Church tends to be a fair sized building and that no one would notice it being removed brick by brick is somewhat odd.

Yeah just a couple of things I found amusing.

Oh another thing, the Twitter Tools I use for the daily twitter based post has been updated so it can do a weekly roundup instead, which is exactly what I wanted for two reasons. First, no doubt some don’t particularly want to see all my tweets for the day and second there’s less of a danger of the homepage just being twitter updates as that, that would be sad.

Frustrated with sniffling…

13th November

…and all the other associated yuckiness (for want of a better word) that comes with this ‘man flu’. I suspect I’m not the only one though, no doubt that I don’t exactly lay very still in the early hours of the morning.

Ok, I started this post at work about 11am, feeling very rough, contemplating going home and trying to sleep it off. Somehow I got through the day, coughing and splurting and still slightly productive but as soon as I got home I was out of it. Crashed out on the sofa, feeling rather done for.

Thankfully and mercifully I slept a little bit and Kita wasn’t delayed getting out of work and this evening has been fantastic again :)

So an early night, hopefully I’ll get some sleep, yawning as I type at 9pm :(
