Last roar of the Tiger

26th January

This evening is the last that I’ll post from Mac OSX Tiger as all being well mine and Ben’s Mac Box Set will arrive.

It’s about time I should upgrade, there are some features in iPhoto ‘09 that look really good and useful but that needs Leopard to run and likewise some new software that I like the look of such as EventBox all need spots to run. Plus things such as Time Machine, built in VNC server, finder updates and addons all meant the upgrade seemed like a sensible way to stop me thinking about buying a whole new machine for a little while longer.

Tiger’s been great, in fact I would say it has been something of a revolution for me in terms of personal computing. It also seems to have pushed some others in the direction of the Mac, Ben and Jon for two.

Now I just need to perform a couple of little backups, not sleep tonight over the excitement and have a really slow day at work tomorrow, home time isn’t going to come quick enough!

So all being well and the delivery on time, this is Tiger signing off.

So how did the install go? Everything up and running fine now?

I’m mildly grumpy that they emailed me to tell me that iLife ‘09 is now available 1 month after buying the new macbook, and it will cost me £69 for the privilege of upgrading. I like the look of the new features of Garageband, and iphoto ‘08 is so limited it really needs upgrading, but the rest I could leave unused (just like I do).

Fantastically well thank you :) I’m writing a little Leopard review at the moment, hopefully finish it this evening.

I know for people who bought Tiger based Mac’s just before Leopard was released there was a cheap upgrade so there might be an iLife type thing going on.

If you’re interested though, Ben and I have got the Mac Box Set Family edition, I’ll email you the details.

One of the big changes for me has been iPhoto 09 I came from 05/06 so the difference has been quite colossal and for me has been well worth the upgrade.
