I’ve been meaning to do a full and in-depth review of my time at HP so far. I’ve been meaning to do it on a kind of monthly basis…
As most will know through a little blogging, word of mouth or twitter the last few months of my internship have been pretty dull. It’s not that the work is boring as such but just that there has been so little of it. Last Friday I was (jokingly) named the ‘Excel Wizard’ and whilst it was kind of funny at the time (I’ve got a picture all printed out on my desk) it is somewhat depressing.
I don’t want to do an internship to hone my Office 2007 skills but apart from some stuff about Fibre Channel networks and learning about HP products that is all that I have really been doing. I want to be thinking and talking about networks, well thankfully today it finally happened.
My mentor isn’t really a Network Admin but a very good Unix Sys Admin. So it was left to me to diagnose some network problems and be sure about some network security. I won’t bore you with the details, heck, I’m not too sure I’m allowed to! It was just nice to have something to do, something relevant and for me anyhow, interesting.
I’ve got some more network performance type stuff to work on for the foreseeable future, to keep me from falling asleep at the keyboard mostly. Likely going to be using netperf for those that are interested.
So yeah work was somewhat better and hopefully it’ll continue, may have to introduce network ‘problems’ for that to happen though!
