The rebuild went well although I did have to perform it twice after I made a little bit of a mistake copying over some files but oh well, all’s well that ends well as Wallace would say!
The Mac is so much quicker, Photoshop (probably the most intensive application I use) is fine to use (more memory would be great but money is tight and that is a luxury, possibly for another day), iTunes is nice and quick (even cover flow, iPhoto (same as iTunes) and the system is all able to handle multiple applications without a problem again. Rebuild a clear success.
One thing I really like about Unix based/derived systems is the way everything i.e. preferences are stored in easy to find files. The Mac I now have (not in front of me, I’m at work) is the same as the old one, just faster. All my preferences were in easy to find files, copy these back and forth and voila its just as if the machine got a kick up the bumb rather than a rebuild. Ok, I’ll admit I knew pretty much what I was doing (made one oopsie) and that perhaps others wouldn’t have been able to do it quite as easily but I reckon a two page guide would cover it.
So the rebuild a resounding success, if I’d have known it would be so easy and if I wasn’t a little bit chicken about it I would have probably done it a while ago. I wonder if this iteration will last 3 years?
