Well I’m finally going to bite the bullet and rebuild the Mac!
I’ve been fighting, using all kinds of tools to try and speed it up again, cleared all the temp files I can think of and whilst it did make a difference I miss the speed I used to enjoy on it that I’m finally going to rebuild it.
It’s been good the last 3 years, a figure that a Windows box could only hope to achieve (I tend to find they’re sluggish after about 2-3 weeks and need a rebuild annually) but it has dipped below what I feel is acceptable and so this evening I’ll be backing up and double checking it. With a busy week ahead, what with getting Kita to the airport for Dubai and meeting the Pastor of Reading Vineyard the install disk probably wont get inserted until Friday.
One thing I’m wondering, would a Linux box be similar in terms of it’s longevity of acceptable speed? I haven’t yet run a Linux distro day in and day out for years on end yet, however that will likely change next year as I’m going to be looking at a netbook for my final year of uni, most likely running Ubuntu Remix. Of course, there’s a wedding to pay for first but hopefully it will be possible.
