Housegroup this evening

18th September

So my next post was meant to be about the second Sunday at Reading Vineyard but alas the death of a Pink Floyd man got priority.

Anyway, the second time of going, well it wasn’t as good, it still felt right but that sparkle wasn’t there if that makes sense? The worship was a bit more laid back, could have done with a drummer and an electric guitar in my opinion but then I shouldn’t be liking the worship based on the instruments and talents behind them. It’s not a concert but there’s something inside of me that I can’t help but notice when the music just isn’t quite right. It bugs me a bit and just distracts, hopefully I’ll grow out of it as I grow up some more.

Unfortunately there wasn’t really a sermon as well, instead the pastor from Winchester Vineyard (if I remember right) was talking about how he and his wife had been to a conference in Florida to learn about healing. It included various stories from his congregation and it was interesting in parts, no doubt if we had brought along someone not of faith (can’t think of a better way to put that, sorry!) it would have caused some interesting conversation. Perhaps there were some there who had such conversations after the meeting, I don’t know.

Between these two main ‘chunks’ of the meeting there was a really good, interesting part that stirred me, Kita and Ben, a silver lining perhaps? Albania, they have an outreach program over there in a small community, providing clothing, ‘sanitary packs’, food and fire engines! For me this was something of a clincher, one thing I really enjoy about Churches is when they are active in a community and give not for the sake of pushing agendas and beliefs but giving from their hearts to those less fortunate then themselves. It’s something King's do a lot of, which now thinking back I wish I had got more involved in but the coffee shop and a need to feed myself got in the way, hopefully next year or just in the future I’ll get more involved.

I’d like to do more volunteering like Kita did at Soul Survivor this year. One thing the two of us are thinking about doing between me graduating and settling into the real world is touring Europe on the cheap, taking a tent and a months pass on the trains but a trip to Albania volunteering sounds like a good idea as well so who knows!

To the title of this post, this evening we’re going to a housegroup. From what we’ve been told it is very normal to try out a few before settling for one so I get the feeling we may do that for a few weeks. The people we spoke to on Sunday after the service seemed pretty nice and welcoming so I’m sure this evening will be good :)

Unless any other Floyd or Genesis members join Rick the next post should be about a new housegroup!

’til then,

Dan

P.S. Forgot to say, Islip Village Hall is booked for the wedding and came in at half of the planned budget :)
