Job and house

14th July

Well it’s fairly quiet in the office at the moment and my boss is out for the afternoon so I can spend a quick 5 minutes with a little update.

S0 the job; it’s proving good, very good and interesting. This is probably the biggest reason I haven’t posted much as I’ve spent so much of my time just reading and learning. For those that are interested I am primarily working with HP 9000 servers and a few blades, for those that don’t follow the link, they’re simply big bits of kit, very big and very cool, if you’re into this kind of thing. I would put up a link to the teams website that I work in but it’s internal only unless you’re a software partner, so sadly no can do. My working day is starting at about 8:30 and I’ve been leaving about 5 but going to aim for 4:30 in the long run. The plan being to get home ahead of the rush hour and get out on my bike.

I’ve been doing a lot of training, trying to get up to scratch with HP-UX basically. I’ve got a fair chunk of linux in my head which  is proving useful but there are some things I am having to learn from scratch and get used to. Still it’s all really good experience and a lot of the training I’m doing is the kind of thing I can definitely put on my CV etc.

The house, the house, we’ve had a few problems. Nothing catastrophic but small niggly things. As far as I can tell it is the fault of the letting agents own mis-communication promising various things that plainly couldn’t happen. Such as us not having access to the loft or the full use of the shed, as such we are quite a bit down on expected storage. Thankfully we can use my parents loft and Kita’s Mums garage but it’s not ideal and a bit frustrating to be honest.

We should have a phone line and broadband all sorted by the 1st week of August all being well. We’ve got an order with Sky and managed to get a Sky+ box quite impressively. Having Sky TV is largely down to the house not having an easy aerial to get to but there is a quite accessible Sky cable. So we’ve gone with Sky TV and basically got broadband for free, all works out at about the same price so it’s a bit of a bonus :) Of course the very good news about this is Kita will be able to blog, regularly :) Also once that is sorted I’ll get some amazing photo’s she took up on Flickr for you to enjoy.

Anyways, that’s enough of an update for now. I know I’ve left stuff out but really need to get stuck back into learning some more about HP-UX 11i V3!

Glad to hear everything is good with the job and reasonable with the house.

How’s Kita? I understand she came up last week, but only found out as Ben was walking out the door to see her. :(

She’s good, getting used to living with one another is fun, not too much friction at the moment which is a big bonus. Yeah she popped back after work as I was away in Bristol with work, think she really just wanted to see someone from Oxford to see what she had missed out on.
