Project Update

11th April

Well, the rack is done and I’m actually rather chuffed with it all :)

In total it’s probably taken me about 10 hours and I’m not starting to think/feel if I could put this level of dedication into my course, well a first might not be an unrealistic goal. Somehow, in the last week I’ve managed to find all this time to make a box, now I just need to do that for programming.

Anyway, as I said I’m fairly chuffed with it. I ordered the original shell, which included the rails but everything else I had to make myself. So that’s a removable back with a gap for cables and ventilation, proper front door with a window to see all the flashing lights and moving the rails back 90mm to fit the cable management bar in. Ooh and painting the whole thing, 2 white layers of undercoat and a shiny blue for the outside and just a clean white for the inside.

I’ll post some photo’s this evening, sadly only from my phone, I’ve got a feeling I’ve left my camera in Kita’s handbag, well I hope it’s there :S

Rate my rack?

I reckon 6.5 to 7 out of 10. Good efort.

;)

FWIW I’ve been trying to set up a dual boot with Mandriva 2008 on an IDE drive and keeping my XP separate on the SATA drive. Success has no yet be enjoyed.

Alas I didn’t think of a witty enough title! Wonder what the problem is with your IDE/SATA drives, seems a bit odd, I assume you can run the two side by side normally.

The issue is that the boot information needs to be placed on the XP SATA drive, and I’m a little nervous about letting Linux modify that yet. I have a working system, but have to turn off the drive I don’t want to boot from (long story).

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
