Can some people not believe?

9th March

The discussion on Webradiance is getting quite interesting and for some reason or other I’ve been trying to remember a verse that was something along the lines of it is not possible to know Jesus unless God has chosen you.

After far to long searching on biblegateway.com  I found it in John 6 verse 44:

“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

I know this is very philosophical and theological but does it mean that there are some that simply can’t believe in Jesus?

Actually I think I know what it is, just as I typed the above. I think God knocks all the time so that we have the option to open the door but it may not happen until an allotted time, again I am thinking of my own testimony but with this idea it does rather fit.

I think I need to think/pray about this some more really and develop the thoughts and ideas.

God bless

Dan

It’s interesting stuff, I’m going to have a look at it as you’ve been saying so much about it. It’s strange, I’ve been watching the Matrix (don’t worry, I’m not about to compare God to evil machines lol) but the whole aspect of choice in what you believe, and the ability to believe in a higher power is an interesting point of discussion isn’t it?

We all have the choice to believe in something greater, but we don’t have to. That’s the beauty of this world, and if there is a creator, or God, I would have to commend them for their fairness in allowing us to have such a choice without reprimand (unless of course a person believes in more fundamental or radical things, in which case I’ll be going to Hell on a certain Judgement Day because of my choice!!!).

Will, yeah it is a very interesting discussion especially having sat both sides of the fence. The discussion has taken a very interesting (although more challenging) turn to my testimony now.

I think without God’s fairness or willingness to die for us there couldn’t be a relationship but I guess it was the risk God took.

For anyone who doesn’t know, I’m ‘Sirkent’ from WebRadiance. Dan, I hope you’ve got as much out of the topic as I have.

I’m always open to the possibility of God’s existence. When I was about 15 I found myself asking if there was a God, openly – to nobody (to God?). From when I was about 15 to a year or so ago I would openly look for signs, evidence, anything. I wouldn’t say I’ve given up, but I think I’ve come to a balance in that I’m not really looking, but I’m still open to suggestion. If God wants to prove himself to me then he knows how to do that better than anyone.

As for whether or not I can, actually, believe… I don’t really know. I’m quite a skeptical person. I don’t believe in Ghosts, the supernatural, psychics, etc. I’ve never experienced any of them although they’re all very interesting! One thing I’m certain of, is that odd/unexplained things do happen – but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an explanation, it just means we don’t have one. The most convincing supernatural thing for most people is Psychics, but I challenge anyone to see what Derren Brown can do and then still believe in them!

Yeah I agree, I was quite sceptical as well but… well you know what I went through and that somewhat opened me up a lot more and my prayers were definitely answered.

I still don’t believe in Psychics though or Ghosts but God, that’s a bit easier now :) I too got a lot out of that discussion as well, I wonder if it’ll go on much longer.

Ooooh interesting discussion from you all!

Although I’m a Christian I do have a question: If God has chosen all of His people, can he be fair? If everyone has a potential to be with God, then isn’t that fair? So if only some do, does that make it unfair?

I guess a lot of God won’t make sense to us mortals…
