That’s rather annoying

7th March

I’ve just been studying my online banking and importantly the direct debits to find that my TV license went out on the 1st March. I was under the impression I had already paid for it over a 4 month period (Nov – Feb) but nope I’ve already started paying for my next license :( seems a bit crazy. Especially considering I wont be here for 3 months and have to go through the hassle of claiming money back.

Surely a sensible system would be to have a Student TV license that runs from September till June. Not discounted as such but just sensible small payments and not paying large quick lumps and then to automatically start paying for the next license?

I checked that the values were all the right amounts and indeed it is, it just seems a little silly to me and somewhat wasteful of resources. I mean surely there are going to be thousands of students claiming back 3 months of their license?

They get to hold your cash for a while – it’s better business practice as it will provide more ready cash and maybe bring some interest.

Yes, for some reason they make you pay for a whole license in six months, then towards half of your next license for the next six months. I suppose it works, but it’s still quite a lot of money for those first six months!

Even more money when you have none :(
